In the first part of this 2-part webinar on the overactive bladder, Alan Wein, Emeritus Chief of Urology at the University of Pennsylvania, introduces the topic by discussing the terminology, the definition of urgency and how this is perceived, and providing his expert views on current issues and controversies with this definition. The prevalence of this condition is discussed in the context of what the need and desire for treatment is. The final part of the webinar discusses the pathophysiological mechanisms of the condition. This webinar is a key resource for trainees and primary care professionals treating patients with this condition.

About the presenter:

Alan J. Wein, MD, PhD(hon.), FACS is Professor with Tenure and Emeritus Chief of Urology and Director of the Residency Program in Urology at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Pennsylvania Health System. He is a graduate of Princeton University and received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.  He completed training in Surgery and Urology at the University of Pennsylvania including a fellowship at the Harrison Department of Surgical Research.  He has been certified and recertified (voluntary) by the American Board of Urology.  He is the recipient of numerous awards, spanning over 50 years in Urology.  He has chaired the Residency Review Committee in Urology and served as Vice President of the American Board of Urology. He is author and co-author of over 1,000 papers and book chapters and is the co-editor-in-chief of the 9th, 10th, and 11th editions of Campbell-Walsh Urology and the name of the 12th, and succeeding editions, has been changed to Campbell-Walsh-Wein Urology to reflect his contributions to the field.  His clinical and research interests include the lower urinary tract, urinary incontinence and lower urinary tract dysfunction, prostate enlargement, and evaluation/management of prostate, bladder and kidney cancer.
