Ed Smith Ed Smith is a distinguished figure in clinical oncology, specialising in proton beam therapy (PBT) and paediatric radiation oncology. Currently serving as a Professor at the University of Manchester, UK, and holding several leadership roles at The Christie National Health Service Foundation Trust, Smith is recognised for his influential work in the research, clinical development, and operational implementation of proton therapy in the UK and globally.

A graduate of St Edmund Hall at the University of Oxford, UK, Smith has a robust academic background with qualifications in both medicine and physiological sciences. His leadership extends to national and international collaborations, including advisory roles with NHS England, the International Particle Therapy Co-Operative Group (PTCOG), and various global proton therapy initiatives.
