Prof. Carlo Tascini, Director of Infectious Diseases Clinic at University Hospital Santa Maria della Misericordia (Italy) and Prof. Kordo Saeed of the University of Southampton (UK) evaluate the effectiveness of applying biomarkers in clinical decision-making to improve risk stratification and determine the required level of care. In particular, the podcast will explore the use of MR-proADM as a prognostic marker to help clinicians expedite patient management and treatment decisions, and to improve the standard of care when time is of the essence.

Prof. Carlo Tascini, MD is currently Head of Infectious Disease Department at the Azienda Sanitaria Universitaria Integrata Presidio Ospedaliero Santa Maria della Misericordia in Udine, Italy. He has previously led the Infectious Disease department at Cotugno hospital in Naples and the Microbiology department at Pisa hospital. As University professor, he has lectured on “Clinical Microbiology”, “Multi-resistant germ infections” and “Diagnosis and therapy of difficult infections”. Prof. Tascini has an extensive experience on the implementation of antibiotic stewardship protocols in many centers as Infectivologist.
Prof. Kordo Saeed MB ChB MSc FRCPath MD is currently working as a consultant clinical microbiologist at the Department of Infection, at University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust & an honorary associate professor at the University of Southampton School of medicine. Prof. Kordo Saeed is the secretary for the Skin, Bone and Joint infection working group of the International Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (ISAC) and the chair of ISAC’s Rapid Diagnostics and Biomarker Working group. He has published on infection control, antibiotic stewardship, bone and joint infections, biomarkers and sepsis.
Podcast 2: Optimizing pediatric infection management at the ED admission
Dr. Adi Klein, Head of the Pediatric Department at Hillel Yaffe medical center (Israel) and Prof. Kordo Saeed of the University of Southampton (UK) look at expediting pediatric infection management and treatment decisions. Specific focus includes the clinical utility of determining infection etiology in emergency and urgent care settings with a single, straight-forward diagnostic assay. Various performance characteristics of the MeMed BV® assay are shared including how the circulating levels of three host biomarkers provide an easy-to-interpret score to differentiate bacterial from viral infection.

Dr. Adi Klein is currently Head of the pediatric department at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Haifa, Israel. After completing her residency in Pediatrics at the Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa, she served as the Director of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Department at the Carmel Medical Center in Haifa. She joined the Pediatrics Department at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in 2004, where she led the Pediatrics Clinic within the Out-Patient Clinics of the Medical Center and served as its Deputy Department Director. Dr. Klein is also an instructor and professional mentor for students at the Faculty of Medicine of the Technion in Haifa and is a member of the Committee for Medical Ethics of the Technion.
