Cheers to April!

Written by Kim Cordell  Product Development Administrator, European Medical Journal  @EMJ_Kim

Instead of dilly-dallying around looking at what May is yet to bring, this month we’ve decided to shake up our style and look back at how April went faster than James Bond can say “shaken, not stirred”.  With the Easter bunnies scampering back down their rabbit hole for another year and chocolate foil wrappers a mere distant memory, you can ask anyone in the EMJ office about April, and you’ll be met with a similar answer of confusion at even the notion of May already being upon us.

We may have had an array of 4-day weeks strung across the month of April, but as usual the EMJ team has been ploughing ahead with work and readily preparing for the publication of EMJ Urology 5.1, which is now published and you’ll definitely want to take a look if you haven’t already. A full congress review of EAU 2017, this year held in London, UK, is included; alongside this, you’ll want to keep an eye out for a few snazzy new features including illustrations.

Speaking of medical congresses, April also saw the EMJ team attend The International Liver Congress™ (ILC) 2017 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. With just over 9,000 attendees from around the world, our team was there to capture the latest in hepatological research; four new clinical practice guidelines were published and presented at ILC, in addition to a recently released app bringing guidelines to the bedside. But that’s enough about ILC 2017 for now… We wouldn’t want to give anything away before the publication of EMJ Hepatology 5.1 now, would we?!

Whilst it may sound as though the EMJ team continues to channel our collective inner Rihanna and work, work, work, work, work, we of course enjoy letting our hair down now and again, and April has proved a great opportunity to do so. Not only has April seen dedicated team bonding time in the form of an office picnic in the Chelmsford office, and crazy golf in London in celebration of hitting monthly targets, but the EMJ team also had a day of training out of the office before donning their gladrags for the Spring Ball with a glass or two of the strong stuff in hand. After enjoying a delicious three course meal, many of the team were awarded for their loyalty to EMJ, and our very own Peter Wilkes was named Employee of the Year. Well done to all, and cheers to an amazing April!
