New ICS Impulse Transforms Balance Assessment

Innovative modular solution gives physicians more options to help more vestibular patients

Taastrup, Denmark | April, 2015 – GN Otometrics, the leading global manufacturer of hearing and balance instrumentation, announced today the release of the latest version of ICS Impulse® – the gold standard in vestibular testing – now with four testing modules in one solution. ICS Impulse delivers Video Frenzel, video Head Impulse Tests (vHIT), and Positional and Oculomotor test batteries in one portable, easy to use solution.

“When it comes to improving vestibular patient care, the modular approach to vestibular assessment is a game changer,” says Wendy Crumley-Welsh, audiologist and product manager at Otometrics. “The Vestibular Disorders Association estimates that it can take between three to five years for a person with vestibular symptoms to receive a diagnosis. What’s more, a person with a vestibular disorder will see on average between four to five doctors or specialists before receiving a proper diagnosis. Now with ICS Impulse, physicians have more affordable and practical options to help their patients who struggle with balance problems. This new solution will empower balance care professionals to reduce diagnosis and treatment times by making quality vestibular care accessible to more people who need it.”

The new release builds on the innovative ICS Impulse, the first vHIT device that enables clinicians to assess all six semicircular canals accurately – in less than 10 minutes.  Now, in addition to vHIT, ICS Impulse delivers dynamic positional tests to diagnose and treat Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) – the most prevalent vestibular disorder and the easiest to treat – and oculomotor tests to assist in determining if the disorder is central, peripheral, or both. The modularity enables physicians to create the solution that works best for them. They can start small and add to their solution as their needs change, or, incorporate all the test options at once. Fast, simple and precise, ICS Impulse is recommended as the first step in analysis providing significant time savings and improved workflow.
