The pair also speak about the process of clinical trials, how these are translated into clinical practice, the emotional burden of living with rheumatoid arthritis, and the benefits of physical activity for patients with arthritis.

Speaker bio:

Ai Lyn Tan obtained her medical degree from University College Cork in Ireland and has been working in academic rheumatology in Leeds since 2001. She received Young Investigator awards from both the British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) and the Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR) and was one of the first National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Clinical Lecturers.

Ai Lyn has also been honoured with the NIHR Clinician Scientist Award for her work studying high-resolution MRI, in regard to the role of ligaments in symptom and anatomic expression, as well as diagnosis of osteoarthritis in the hand. She is Associate Professor at the University of Leeds School of Medicine, UK; Director of Research and Innovation at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals National Health Service (NHS) Trust, UK; and Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at Chapel Allerton Hospital, Leeds, UK.
