Antoni Chan graduated with a medical degree from the University of Aberdeen, UK, in 1997. After obtaining membership of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), he trained to specialise in rheumatology in Oxford. He was awarded the Arthritis Research UK Clinical Research Fellowship from 2003–2006, when he completed his laboratory and clinical research into the immunology of rheumatic diseases. Chan was then awarded a PhD for his doctoral work.
Chan is a now Consultant Rheumatologist and Associate Medical Director at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, Reading, UK. He is a full member of the ASsessment in Ankylosing Spondylitis working group (ASAS), and has won the British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) Best Practice Award. In 2018, he received the Patient Choice Award for Best Care by a Rheumatologist from the National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society (NASS). Chan leads the axial spondyloarthritis service in his hospital, and his team were awarded the NASS Aspiring to Excellence Award in 2019.
