Meeting Summary

Dr Wijkstra opened this symposium on long-term non-invasive ventilation (NIV) in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Dr Köhnlein presented data from a recent randomised controlled trial (RCT) of NIV for the treatment of severe stable COPD.1 Dr Cheval discussed the use of telemonitoring
in French patients with COPD. The meeting concluded with a round-table discussion on the international practice of home mechanical ventilation (HMV) for COPD, moderated by Dr Wijkstra and Prof Windisch with contributions from Dr Köhnlein, Dr Nava, Dr Hart, and Prof Pépin.
