The pair discuss Pal’s career and what led her to paediatric oncology, as well as her research to develop low toxicity drugs to treat cancer and patient-specific non-animal technologies.

Deepali Pal graduated with an MBBS from Manipal University, India, in 2008, and then went on to achieve an MSc in medical genetics the following year. She completed her PhD, entitled ‘Induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) re-programming of human prostate’, in 2014. Between 2010 and 2013, she was a Marie Curie European (EU) Doctoral Research Fellow at Newcastle University, UK, and she has worked as both a Research Associate and Postdoctoral Fellow at the same institution.
Pal is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Sciences and founder of 3RsLabPal at Northumbria University, UK. Her research expertise is in paediatric leukaemia, and she is passionate about developing safer and kinder treatments for children with cancer. Pal is currently principal investigator on a 3-year project, which is looking at 3D bio-printed microtissues to develop patient-specific non-animal technologies in the development of drugs to treat cancer.
