Speaker bio:

Steven Laureys is an award-winning neuroscientist and clinical neurologist, and is a leading physician on disorders of consciousness, persistent vegetative state, and locked-in syndrome. He completed his medical training at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Brussels, Belgium, followed by a MSc in Medical and Pharmaceutical Research at that same university, a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at Liège University, Belgium, and a qualification in palliative care.

Laureys is currently Research Director at the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research, Founding Director of GIGA Consciousness, University of Liège, and Founding Director and Clinical Professor at the Brain Clinic of the same university. He is also Founding Co-director of Hangzhou International Consciousness Institute, China, and Associate Professor at the CERVO Research Centre, University Laval, Québec, Canada. Further, he is the Co-founder of Mind Care International Foundation.

He has received multiple awards, including from the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) and US Society of Cognitive Neuroscience. Laureys is also the author of 10 scientific books and his latest, ‘The No-Nonsense Meditation Book’ is an international bestseller. He is a renowned speaker and expert on brain science and has presented five TEDx talks. His team focuses on exploring the human mind in health and disease, assessing coma and related states, concussion, near-death experiences, anaesthesia, dreaming, hypnosis, and meditation using the latest brain imaging technologies and wearables.
