Robert Cowan studied philosophy and sociology at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in 1972. He then completed a non-degree programme at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Brain Science, USA, and obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, California, USA. Now, he is board certified in neurology and pain and headache medicine and holds a prominent position at the Betty Higgins Family Foundation with a Directorship in Headache Research. He has sat on numerous editorial boards; has many publications to his name, including two books and several book chapters; and has presented at a number of congresses.
Robert is also a former President of the Headache Cooperative of the Pacific (HCOP); is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and American Headache Society; and has served on the boards of a number of organisations, including the Alliance for Headache Disease Advocacy (AHDA) and American Council for Headache Education (ACHE). He is currently a neurologist in the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine, Palo Alto, California, USA.
