Edwina Brown started her medical career by obtaining her undergraduate medical degree at Somerville College at the University of Oxford, UK, and University College Hospital London, UK. She then undertook renal training at the Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, before returning to the UK as a Registrar at University College Hospital London, and Senior Registrar at Charing Cross Hospital in London 2 years later.
At the time of her appointment, Brown was the only female Consultant Nephrologist working for the National Health Service (NHS). However, she has now been appointed the President of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD). She is a prolific author, with 200 papers published in distinguished journals, and has been the editor of numerous books.
When Brown is not working or completing one of her numerous studies such as KTOP, a study she is currently leading on kidney transplantation in older people, Brown likes to keep active. She can often be found walking and hiking, and she has passion for travel, music, and theatre.
