Introducing EMJ Allergy & Immunology 1.1

United Kingdom, August 2, 2016: Welcome to the inaugural edition of EMJ Allergy & Immunology 1.1. The eJournal contains an array of scientific peer-reviewed articles that explore contemporary and global issues currently encountered in the field. It also includes a comprehensive review of the 60th European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) 2016 congress.

Thousands of participants descended upon the EAACI 2016 congress, held in Vienna, Austria, in June. Its programme was designed to appeal to a diverse audience with an emphasis on marrying together scientific research and clinical practice. The eJournal provides a review of some of the insightful and informative research presented, including a selection of those recognised and awarded by EAACI as the best presentations overall. The topics of research featured in the abstracts include the impact of climate change on pollen in the air and exploring the role of the allergist in eosinophilic oesophagitis.

There is also a round-up of the most important news and announcements to come from the congress, which put a particular emphasis on the increasing importance of precision medicine to the field. Among these is the announcement made by the President of EAACI stressing the importance of this, which will aid in promoting a greater awareness of this novel therapeutic approach.

Eosinophilic oesophagitis is currently a prominent topic of research in the field and it also has a strong presence among the eJournal’s peer-reviewed articles. Bhardwaj and Ghaffari’s article points to the potential of biomarkers for the treatment of the condition but also to the challenges faced in research before they can be fully utilised. Vaezi et al. provide a comprehensive review of the existing therapies for eosinophilic oesophagitis. A further two reviews tackle the gargantuan topic of drug allergies, by Arvind Bamanikar and Rose Hamm, respectively. Other topics included are asthma and atopic dermatitis. Available online now.

Zoë Webster, Head of Publishing at EMJ said: “The EMJ team have been looking forward to the launch to the first ever edition of EMJ Allergy & Immunology for some time now! We are now excited to hear our reader’s thoughts on the eJournal which has been filled with important insights and impactful research from across the field.”
