In this interactive case study, healthcare professionals have the opportunity to learn more about the SHARE approach for shared decision-making in the context of dialysis modality selection.
Each step of the SHARE approach is explored through the presentation of a 75-year-old patient with end-stage kidney disease, highlighting the different responsibilities of nephrologists, dialysis nurses, and social workers in providing a co-ordinated response. Tips for approaching conversations with the patient and their family members are also provided, emphasising the importance of clarity and patient participation. Clinical questions embedded throughout are designed to make you reflect on your understanding of the different steps in the shared decision-making process, and how to use them in practice.
This initiative was funded by Baxter. Technical and editorial support was provided by EMJ.
