Speaker: Karen Ousey is Professor and Director for the Institute of Skin Integrity and Infection Prevention, University of Huddersfield, UK, and Visiting Professor at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia; The Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin, Republic of Ireland; and Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia. Ousey completed her BA in Economics and Social Studies and her MA in Health Service Management at the University of Manchester, UK. She subsequently went on to complete her PhD at the University of Salford, UK, and now has over 30 years of experience in clinical practice and academia. She has also published over 200 papers and edited two textbooks.
In addition to this, she is previous Academic Editor for Wounds UK; elected chair of the International Wound Infection Institute (IWII); President Elect of the International Skin Tears Advisory panel; and was an International Committee Member at the World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS) Congress 2020 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Ousey’s clinical background is in orthopaedics and tissue viability, and her research interests include infection prevention, skin integrity, management of surgical site complications, and improving healthcare professionals and service users’ access to education.
