This week, host Jonathan Sackier is joined by Ricky Bhogal, a Consultant at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London, UK, who specialises in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Oncology. The pair discuss the footballing injury which led Bhogal to study medicine, as well as the heady heights which Bhogal has already reached in his career as surgeon, educator, academic, and star of the Channel 4 documentary ‘Super Surgeons: A Chance at Life’.

Speaker bio:

Ricky Bhogal completed undergraduate medical training at The University of Leicester in 2002, and chose to pursue a career in surgery. Following his work as a specialist registrar, Bhogal became a Wellcome Trust Research fellow at The University of Birmingham, completing a PhD on hepatic ischaemia-reperfusion injury.

Bhogal then went on to become a specialist registrar across several hospitals in the West Midlands, working in multiple surgical sub-specialties. He trained in liver transplant and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery at the Birmingham Liver Transplant Unit.

Bhogal has worked as a Consultant Hepatobiliary surgeon at specialist cancer centre, The Royal Marsden, London, UK, since 2018, and is also a senior lecturer at the Institute for Cancer Research in the UK. Bhogal is passionate about education, and improving outcomes for patients with hepato-pancreato-biliary cancers.
