London, United Kingdom, January 24, 2020
Today we release our first ever EMJ Hematology US Edition Journal, presenting the latest breakthroughs within the field along with our exclusive coverage from the American Society of Hematology (ASH) meeting in Orlando, Florida, USA. ASH, the world’s largest professional haematology society with more than 17,000 members from nearly 100 countries, promotes research, clinical care, and advocacy in the discipline, with the overarching goal to conquer blood diseases. This has quickly become an unmissable event in our publication schedule.
The programme was truly magnificent, with >30,000 attendees, >30 special interest and spotlight sessions, 16 scientific programme sessions, and an abundance of oral and poster abstracts available. Our congress review stories, spanning new study outcomes for sickle cell disease patients to socioeconomic factors involved in myeloid leukaemia survival rate, are a taster of these developments. We also include a selection of the presented abstracts as well as interviews with the Chairs of the International Members Committee and Foundation Committee, providing further insights into the congress.
Alongside our congress review we provide a selection of peer-reviewed articles from experts within the field of haematology. The Editor’s Pick is a paper by Uwaezouke that discusses current perspectives on the pathogenesis and treatment of acute chest syndrome in children with sickle cell disease. Navada and Belasen present different therapeutic options for patients with myelodysplastic syndromes unresponsive to hypomethylating agents, valuable coverage in that only half of these patients respond to these agents with variable durations of effect. Indulge yourself in these fascinating papers and many more in EMJ Hematology US Edition 1.1.
The full journal is available now at www.emjreviews.com or via the social media channels Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
