Introducing the European Medical Journal 1.3

United Kingdom, August 23, 2016: Welcome to the third edition of the European Medical Journal, which draws together the latest research findings and important developments from across the fields of therapeutic medicine. The journal offers an array of high-quality peer-reviewed articles, feature articles, and symposia. Together they provide comprehensive reviews, informative evaluations, and invaluable insights into current and developing research, management, and treatment of diseases and disorders.

Published in this edition are two insightful feature articles. Here, Kiss presents an assured discussion of the benefits of awake thoracic surgery to aid the quality of life of chronically ill patients, while also tackling the ethical issues that surround its use. In the other, Ma and Melson discuss endoscopic management of sessile serrated polyps of the colon.

Also presented in the journal is a selection of impactful peer-reviewed articles from a variety of fields. Among them is Fleming’s review of the clinical management of fibromyalgia and polysymptomatic distress disorders, giving examples of assessment procedure from his own practice. Several interventional cardiology topics have been included in this edition. Mallidi and Lotfi review stent thrombosis and its occurrence in practice with second and third-generation stents alongside bioresorbable vascular scaffolds, and Di Gioia et al. evaluate in-stent restenosis from diagnosis to treatment.

Among several articles included from the field of hepatology, Verhelst et al. uncover the future trends in the clinical management of cirrhosis and the optimal care of patients including diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and prognosis, and Martinez-Gili et al. attempt to enclose the main metabolic and signalling connections between lipotoxic lipid species, and how their homeostasis is disrupted in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
