The pharmaceutical industry is the second most trusted sector in Great Britain, according to the latest Ipsos Trustworthiness Index.
Some 29% of those surveyed said they found the pharma industry trustworthy, putting it second only to the food and drink sector, which scored 31% in the poll. A similar pattern was reflected in the global results, too, with the international score for trust in the pharma industry standing at 34% – a 3% increase on its 2021 result.
Those surveyed said their trust judgement was based on whether an industry is open and transparent about what it does, is reliable and keeps its promises, behaves responsibly and provides good value for a good price.
The researchers have attributed the increase in trust for pharma to the “actions taken by the sector in response to COVID-19”, the report notes.
Other key findings from the survey include the fact that trust in industries overall has gone up year-on-year and a person’s age was unlikely to impact scoring patterns.
The report was conducted between 26 August and 9 September 2022 and surveyed people from 21 markets around the world.
