Speaker bio:
Stephanie Hanna obtained a Master of Pharmacy and Pharmacology from the University of Bath, UK, and completed her PhD at the same institution, researching the protein SHIP-1 and its regulatory effect on T lymphocyte function. Sparking her interest in immunology, Stephanie began her post as a Research Associate at the University of Cardiff, Wales, UK, specifically focusing on immunology in Type 1 diabetes, and she has stayed there ever since!
Stephanie is currently involved in numerous projects, which focus on several areas of Type 1 diabetes. One aspect of this is using new bioinformatic approaches to analyse antigen specific responses in clinical trial samples; another is the phenotypic analysis of T and B cells in people with Type 1 diabetes, and also in those who have autoantibodies but do not progress to diabetes.
On top of everything else, Stephanie also manages to stay up to date with another of her research interests; the immunology of thyroid eye disease.
