2024 marks the 10th anniversary of CoMiSS, prompting us to look back at the decade of science and clinical practice behind the tool. The podcast reflects on the tool’s inception, its impact on aiding earlier diagnosis, and its role in evaluating therapeutic interventions for managing symptoms of cow’s milk allergy (CMA).

Speaker bio:
Yvan Vandenplas – Professor Emeritus and Consultant at the University Hospital Brussels, at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Free University of Brussels) in Belgium. Professor Vandenplas first became Head of the Unit for Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition in 1987 and created the Paediatric Hospital, the “KidZ Health Castle” where he held the position of Chair of Paediatrics from 1994 until 2021. Professor Vandenplas’ primary interests lie in functional gastrointestinal disorders such as gastro-oesophageal reflux, colic, and constipation, as well as infant nutrition, with a focus on probiotics, prebiotics, and cow’s milk allergy. Over 10 years ago, he created CoMiSS in close collaboration with eminent colleagues.
Raanan Shamir – Chairman of the Institute of Gastroenterology, Nutrition, and Liver Diseases at the Schneider Children’s Medical Centre of Israel, and Professor of Paediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Tel Aviv University, Israel. Professor Shamir’s current research encompasses paediatric nutrition, allergy prevention, nutrition and growth, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and childhood hyperlipidaemia.
Kateřina Bajerová – Paediatric Gastroenterologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University Hospital Brno and Medical Faculty Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic. Dr. Bajerová’s primary interests revolve around paediatric care, chronic allergic and immune conditions, and the role of nutrition in paediatric care. She, along with our other guests, has played a role as an investigator in the studies and research behind the development and implementation of CoMiSS.
