A vibrant city with a rich history, Washington, D.C., USA was home to this year’s American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) Annual Congress 2024. The capital city, usually alive with tourists flocking to see the many museums, monuments, and, of course, the President’s home, saw thousands of allergists and immunologists descend for 4 days of presentations, educational offerings, new technologies, and much more.

AAAAI 2024 featured poster sessions, oral abstract sessions, seminars, and workshops on all of the hot topics in allergy and immunology today, discussing the latest trials and developments in the field. Key topics covered ranged from asthma and immunotherapy to food allergy and skin disease, with talks covering practice management and new technologies in each of these fields.

Over the course of the 4-day congress, several plenary lectures were also held with regards to these topics. The Presidential Plenary saw AAAAI President Jonathan Bernstein, Division of Allergy & Immunology, University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, explore the benefits of interdisciplinary discussions between allergists and those from other specialties. He discussed neuro-immune interactions in mediating allergic and non-allergic conditions commonly managed by allergists and immunologists. Later plenary sessions addressed microbial influences on allergic diseases, looking into how the newest developments may bring microbiome-targeting therapies to clinical practice; the connections between metabolic and allergic diseases; and updates in the development and treatment of asthma.

The rest of the congress was a bustling flurry of education, debates, and the newest products in allergy treatment. Alongside the main congress was the Discovery Program, featuring cutting-edge symposia focusing on Type 2 immune cells, diseases, and pathways. This conference held additional presentations and workshops for all of the healthcare professionals in attendance.

Make sure to save the date for next year’s congress, taking place in San Diego, California, USA, from 28th February–3rd March.
