United Kingdom, July 28, 2016: Welcome to EMJ Hematology. This edition provides a wide selection of peer-reviewed articles exploring the emerging issues in haematology, while also offering important insights and perspectives on current practice and research. Included is a review of the 21st Congress of the European Hematology Association (EHA), presenting all of the important abstract reviews, research news, and announcements from the event.
The EHA congress took place in June earlier this year in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark. The event offered a substantial programme spanning across many aspects of the haematology field as well as providing a welcome opportunity to interact and have discussions with experts from around the world. There was an array of research presentations, a selection of which have been summarised in the journal’s abstract reviews section.
The eJournal’s coverage of the EHA 2016 congress also extends to reporting on the news of the latest research developments elsewhere in the field which were first announced at the event. Among them are the current results from ongoing clinical trials and the use of both immunotherapy and genome sequencing as a treatment approach towards tackling various blood diseases.
The peer-reviewed articles featured in EMJ Hematology 4.1 include a discussion from Mullier et al. on the bleeding risks that come with direct-acting oral anticoagulants. A number of genetic diseases also feature in the issue. Druley looks at the contributions of germline variation to paediatric leukaemias and Colombatti and Sainati evaluate the current situation of paediatric sickle cell disease across Europe. Other articles included explore the topics of thrombocytopenia and the management of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Available online now.
