A RECENT clinical study has shed light on the potential benefits of combining modified Wendan Decoction with acupuncture in treating urticaria, a common inflammatory skin condition. The research involved 150 patients who were randomly divided into two groups: a control group receiving standard treatment with levocetirizine tablets, and an observation group treated with a combination of modified Wendan Decoction and acupuncture.
Following the treatment period, the observation group displayed significantly greater clinical improvement than the control group (P < 0.05). While both groups experienced a reduction in symptoms such as erythema, itching, wheals, nausea, and fatigue, the observation group reported markedly lower symptom scores overall.
Moreover, the study measured changes in key serum inflammatory markers and immune function indicators. Levels of IL-4, IL-10, IL-25, IL-33, and IFN-γ dropped in both groups, but the reduction was more pronounced in the group receiving the combined traditional treatment. These findings suggest a stronger anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating effect from the integrative therapy.
Importantly, the recurrence rate of urticaria symptoms was significantly lower in the observation group, further reinforcing the long-term benefits of the combined approach.
The results suggest that incorporating modified Wendan Decoction and acupuncture into treatment plans may enhance clinical outcomes for patients with urticaria. This integrative method not only alleviates symptoms more effectively but also appears to strengthen immune response and reduce inflammation. The study supports the broader application of traditional Chinese medicine alongside conventional therapies in managing chronic inflammatory conditions.
