1. Tell us about your role at EMJ and what your main responsibilities involve?
I am an Editorial Co-ordinator; this means that I am involved in overseeing the content created by the Editorial Department. This involves several different skills including communicating with external authors, writing newsletter content, organising Editorial Assistant workload, and liaising with Client Services on commercial projects.
2. What does a typical workday look like for you?
There’s no such thing as a typical day in the Editorial Department! I always have a variety of tasks to do varying from long term projects such as feature writing to short term priorities such as project initiation calls and email correspondence. I also have the opportunity to work collaboratively with different teams including Design, Client Services, Marketing, and Ops on a range of different projects.
3. Can you tell us about what you did before coming to EMJ? How has it helped you with your current role?
Before starting at EMJ, I studied Biochemistry in Nottingham. The varied aspects of the course have definitely helped me become adaptable, which I translate into my everyday work when completing different tasks. The transition to more written work during the pandemic also helped me with my writing skills, which of course are key in my role.
4. What qualities do you bring to the EMJ team?
I am always happy to help out with different projects and tasks, and hope that I tackle problems with a level-head! I try to look at the bigger picture in situations, and think that this helps me day-to-day with prioritisation.
5. How is EMJ different to other workplaces?
EMJ is my first job out of uni! However, EMJ seems different as all the staff here share collective values that allow us to work together to the best of our abilities.
6. Describe your proudest moment at EMJ and explain why.
I would say that my proudest moment has been championing the EMJ Podcast; supporting the team and planning to ensure the pipeline is maintained with high-quality guests. We officially had a record-breaking month in March, with the highest downloads of all time!
7. What does a typical weekend look like for you?
I often spend my weekends visiting friends, going out to eat or to a beer garden in the summer.
8. How would you spend your last £1?
My last £1 would probably be spent on a packet of instant ramen- and definitely was in first year of uni!
9. Who has had the most impact on your career to date and why?
My family members have all had an impact on my career in different ways. They have always supported me in everything that I do, and continue to do so.
10. Finally, do you have any words of wisdom you’d like to share
Understanding the bigger picture and the wider goals of an organisation is key to understanding the value of your place there.
